Lessons Learned

1 Corinthians 2:1-2 (The Message)  "You'll remember, friends, that when I first came to you to let you in on God's master stroke, I didn't try to impress you with polished speeces and the latest philosophy.  I deliberately kept it plain and simple: first Jesus and who He is; then Jesus and what He did - Jesus crucified."

I struggled a little bit in my practice this week.  I missed several steers in the steer roping and split the horns a couple of times in the heading.  I roped a few steers by just one leg in the heeling. But as I looked back over this I realized it had been 10 days since I had taken a day to rope the dummies - - it quickly became clear why it went so poorly!

Sometimes as we get more and more experience and subsequent success, we can get away from the fundamentals that helped us succeed in the first place.  We forget that in the arena, as in life, the simple and the fundamental are usually more effective than the flashy.  So let's not forget to return to the basics again and again.
