+God's glory is manifest when people are loved (1 John 3:18-19)
+God wants us to be Sherpas
Lessons Learned
The last 2 weeks have been about helping others reach their goals. Joey Bell asked me to help him prepare for the NFR and I had a steer wrestling clinic. In other words, I was a Sherpa of sorts for some steer wrestlers.
You see, a Sherpa does more than tell you the way to the top of some mountain -- they go with you and lead you as much as you climb. A Sherpa already knows the terrain because they have been there and they don't merely pass on that knowledge - - they help you apply that knowledge in a real "hands on" way.
We are to be followers of Christ, but to most that is a vague proposition. When I started following the Lord, I only had stereotypical ideas of what that was supposed to look like. I read some books on the subject, but it wasn't until I had some men guide me and walk with me that I began to see what it means to follow Christ. In other words, God sent me some Sherpas - men who had been where I wanted to go and men that were unafraid of helping me get there as well.
God wants us to be a Sherpa for someone else. The world needs men that will help others reach the summit that is in front of them. Men who won't just tell them "where to go", but will walk with them until they have reached their destination. Then, as they summit, the Sherpa can take the picture and none of the Glory!
