Lessons Learned

Loving People

I tried to make this week about my family.  I got a little practice in, but only in the context of spending time with my kids and my wife.  Candice and I took an anniversary trip to Austin.  I roped with the boys on Tuesday and Wednesday and last Friday and Saturday I took my daughter to a father/daughter retreat--complete with camping out and a barn dance.

I love my family.  But to just say that I love them is not enough.  Eventhough I truly mean it, if I don't have actions that are consistent with what I say then I am basically a liar.  Time spent loving people, and loving them well, may seem like time that is taken away from time spent in the practice pen.  But in reality, it is fundamental to having the support and peace necessary to compete at the highest levels.

While I am not spending time with my family just so I can be successful, it is one of the side blessings.  If I really show love to those around me I am always more blessed than those that I have had the opportunity to love.
